The Atlanta Falcons welcomed players back to their facility earlier this week as Phase I of the voluntary offseason workout program began on April 8, according to a team statement. The start of workouts coincided with significant news, including the retirement announcement from offensive tackle Kaleb McGary.

McGary, who was drafted in the first round in 2019 after the Falcons traded up for him, played six seasons with Atlanta and started 92 games. He missed all of last season due to a knee injury suffered at training camp. “I truly enjoyed my time playing alongside Kaleb,” Atlanta Falcons President of Football Matt Ryan said. “He was an outstanding teammate and had a tremendous career as a Falcon. We are grateful for the impact he made on this organization, and we wish him nothing but the best in retirement.”

General manager Ian Cunningham discussed how limited draft capital led the team to focus on free agency for roster improvements this year. “Moving forward, you don’t want to live in that space,” Cunningham said regarding reliance on free agency over drafting players. He also described his approach: “Having been raised in the systems in Baltimore, I am a firm believer in best player available.” As draft preparations continue, speculation remains about which positions—such as offensive tackle—the Falcons may target.

Running back Bijan Robinson spoke about his new role as a veteran leader entering his fourth year with Atlanta: “Me being here for now going on my fourth year and me now being a veteran leader to these guys, it’s pretty cool. I am pretty excited, even just with how I feel.” Robinson added that while last season was positive, he hopes to improve further: “Last year was a cool year… but this year I want to be even better in all aspects.” Safety Jessie Bates III echoed similar motivation: “I say every year you have something to prove… Whatever it is, you want to go and prove to somebody that you’re still that guy.” Bates also highlighted continuity at defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s position as key for defensive improvement.

The franchise has been part of Atlanta since its founding as an expansion team in 1965 according to the official website. The team competes in the National Football League’s NFC South division according to the official website and is based out of Atlanta, Georgia according to the official website. Freddie the Falcon serves as mascot according to the official website.

Looking ahead, fans can expect more coverage leading up to this year’s NFL Draft—including mock drafts and analysis—as anticipation builds around how new additions will shape next season’s roster. The club has reached two Super Bowls—in 1998 and again in 2016—according to their official site, reflecting both past achievements and future ambitions.
