The Atlanta Falcons announced on Mar. 17 that they have signed free agent wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus.
Zaccheaus first joined the Falcons as an undrafted free agent from the University of Virginia in 2019 and played in 10 games during his rookie season. He made a notable impact against the Carolina Panthers in Week 14 that year, catching a 93-yard touchdown pass, which was also the longest touchdown pass of quarterback Matt Ryan’s career.
“Olamide’s done a great job for us since he’s been here,” Matt Ryan said during the 2021 season. “He’s a reliable guy. Very smart. Does a lot of the dirty work for us in the run game, but also has vertical speed to be able to stretch it. I mean, he’s done that, he’s had those kinds of catches for a long time since he’s been here.”
During his four seasons with Atlanta, Zaccheaus appeared in 55 games with 23 starts and recorded 94 receptions for 1,328 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging over 14 yards per catch. After leaving Atlanta as a free agent in 2023, he played for several teams including the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, and Chicago Bears. In his most recent season with Chicago in 2025, Zaccheaus caught 39 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns while also contributing on rushing plays.
The signing comes as NFL teams are now able to officially add free agents following the start of the new league year on March 11 at 4 p.m. Zaccheaus joins a receiving group that includes Drake London and newly acquired Jahan Dotson.
The Atlanta Falcons compete in the National Football League’s NFC South division according to their official website. The team is based in Atlanta, Georgia according to their official website and began as an expansion franchise in 1965 according to their official website. The Falcons have advanced to the Super Bowl twice—in both the 1998 and 2016 seasons—according to their official website. Freddie the Falcon serves as their mascot according to their official website.
As free agency continues this offseason, observers will watch how Zaccheaus fits into Atlanta’s plans alongside other new additions.
