The Atlanta Falcons announced on Apr. 14 that Bijan Robinson will have a new running mate in the backfield for the upcoming NFL season, as Brian Robinson Jr. joins the team following Tyler Allgeier’s departure to the Arizona Cardinals.
This change is significant for Atlanta, which has relied on a balanced running attack in recent seasons. The pairing of Bijan and Allgeier was known as one of the league’s most effective tandems, with each bringing a different style to the field.
Bijan Robinson led the NFL in scrimmage yards last season with 2,298 and set franchise records, including a 93-yard touchdown run. He said about his new teammate: “Christian appreciated him as a teammate and as a man. So that’s pretty much what he said to me: You’ll enjoy him as a teammate. So, I’m really excited about it.” Brian Robinson Jr., who played last year with San Francisco backing up Christian McCaffrey, described his own approach by saying: “I’m more of a physical-style player… I like to punish people. I’m not really sure how much physicality Bijan likes to include in his game, but I’m extremely physical with my game.”
The two runners bring contrasting skills—Bijan is known for elusiveness and receiving ability while Brian offers power between the tackles—which head coach Kevin Stefanski believes will benefit Atlanta’s offense moving forward. “A really talented football player who I think matches exceptionally with what we want to do with him and Bijan,” Stefanski said about Brian Robinson Jr., adding that balance is essential: “We want to have an attack that’s not just a one-person attack… I think Brian gives us an opportunity to do that.”
According to the official website, the Falcons compete in the National Football League’s NFC South division and are based in Atlanta, Georgia. The team began play as an expansion franchise in 1965 and has advanced twice to the Super Bowl—in 1998 and again in 2016—as reported by their official website. Freddie the Falcon serves as their mascot.
As preparations continue for next season, fans will be watching closely how this new backfield partnership develops within Atlanta’s evolving offensive strategy.
