Finding Falcons is a series exploring the reasons behind Atlanta’s draft decisions, featuring exclusive interviews with position coaches, area scouts, and decision-makers. In this installment, Dante Fargnoli, an area scout for the Falcons, discusses the impact of Billy Bowman Jr., an Oklahoma defensive back drafted in 2025.
Fargnoli highlights Bowman’s performance in the Texas vs. Oklahoma game as a decisive factor in his evaluation. “With Billy, every single time you cut on that game, every time you went to that game, Billy was making big plays,” he said. Bowman demonstrated his skills through key plays such as goal-line hits and tackles.
Bowman is noted for his versatility and aggressiveness on the field. “He’s not the tallest guy. He’s not the longest guy. But in his heart, he’s like 250 pounds,” Fargnoli stated.
Falcons’ assistant head coach/defense Jerry Gray emphasized Bowman’s energy and decisiveness: “The first thing that you see when you watch Billy is that aggressiveness… And ultimately, when you put the tape on, you see everybody feeding off of him.”
Gray also compared Bowman to Blaine Bishop, a player he coached with the Tennessee Titans known for his aggressive playstyle. “Billy looks like that,” Gray remarked.
As Bowman joins the Falcons roster competing for a starting spot at nickel against players like Dee Alford and Clark Phillips III, there is optimism about his potential impact on the team.
