Chairwoman Anderson-Henry issued a Memorial Day message on May 22, pausing to honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. She said, “On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten. As we remember their legacy, let us recommit to building a stronger, more united, and more compassionate community together.”

Memorial Day serves as an opportunity for communities across the country to reflect on those who lost their lives in service and consider how their actions shape local values.

In related community developments, enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by 2.5% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. The county’s public schools enrolled a total of 61,644 students during that period.

Demographic data from Clayton County schools shows that Black students were the most represented ethnic group within local schools at 68%, followed by Hispanic students at 24%. Multiracial students comprised 3% of enrollment while White students accounted for just 2%, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

As residents observe Memorial Day this year, Chairwoman Anderson-Henry’s call encourages renewed commitment toward unity and compassion within Clayton County.
