The Clayton County Board of Commissioners announced on April 18 that it will hold a series of public budget meetings to review requests for the fiscal year 2027. The meetings are scheduled for April 20, April 27, and April 28, beginning at 9 a.m. each day at the Administrative Office Board Room located at 112 Smith St., Jonesboro.

These meetings provide an opportunity for county officials and residents to discuss funding priorities and allocations for the upcoming fiscal year. The sessions will be open to the public and can also be viewed live online via One Meeting by visiting www.claytoncountyga.gov.

The discussions may include considerations related to local education trends. Enrollment in Clayton County schools declined by 2.5% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous period, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In total, there were 61,644 students enrolled in Clayton County schools during that academic year according to state data.

Demographic information from recent years shows that Black students made up the largest share of enrollment at Clayton County schools with approximately 68% of the student body in the 2022-23 school year according to state data. Hispanic students represented about one quarter (24%) of enrollment according to state figures, while multiracial students accounted for roughly three percent as reported by state records. White students comprised just two percent of all enrollees in county schools during this period according to state statistics.

Residents seeking more information about these budget meetings or wishing to participate can visit www.claytoncountyga.gov or call county offices directly. Media representatives are encouraged to contact Communications Administrator Valerie L. Fuller or submit inquiries through https://claytoncountyforms.claytoncountyga.gov/news-media-request/.

As planning continues for fiscal year budgets amid shifting local demographics and educational needs, these public forums are expected to play a key role in shaping future resource distribution across Clayton County.
