Construction is ongoing at Clayton County’s new Fire Station No. 1 and Fire Station No. 9, according to a recent update on the county’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) projects. Work is also continuing on stormwater pipe installation at the Lakeview Events Center Amphitheater.

Residents can follow the progress of these SPLOST-funded projects by visiting www.claytonsplost.com.

The SPLOST program supports infrastructure and public facility improvements across Clayton County. These developments come as local schools have experienced changes in enrollment and demographics. For example, enrollment at Clayton County schools declined by 2.5% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, with a total of 61,644 students enrolled during that period (https://www.gadoe.org/). Black students made up the largest group at 68%, followed by Hispanic students at 24%. Multiracial students accounted for 3%, while White students represented only 2% of the student body (https://www.gadoe.org/).
