Clayton County officials have announced the opening of warming stations for residents as temperatures are forecasted to drop into the 20s on Sunday night, February 22, and Monday night, February 23, 2026. The National Weather Service issued a weather update warning of the cold conditions.

The following locations will be available for overnight shelter from 6:00 PM to 8:00 AM on both nights:

– Anointed Vision of Hope at 8049 Webb Road, Riverdale, GA 30274 (MARTA Bus Route #191)
– Clayton County Police Department Headquarters Media Room at 7911 North McDonough Street, Jonesboro, GA 30236

County organizations Ujimay Way (404-267-1853) and Hearts To Nourish Hope (404-375-5341) will canvass the area to provide transportation to these warming stations. Residents needing assistance with transportation are asked to text only after 10:00 PM.

In recent years, Clayton County schools have seen a decline in enrollment. During the 2022-23 school year, there was a 2.5% decrease compared to the previous year. The total number of students enrolled was 61,644 according to data from the Georgia Department of Education (https://www.gadoe.org/).

The student body in Clayton County is diverse. Black students made up the largest group at 68%, followed by Hispanic students at 24%. Multiracial students accounted for 3%, while White students represented just 2% of total enrollment during that same school year (https://www.gadoe.org/).

Officials encourage residents who may need shelter or assistance during this period of cold weather to make use of these resources.
