Clayton County Parks and Recreation announced on Mar. 25 that it will host a free Pilates in the Park event on Saturday, April 25, at Lake Spivey Recreation Center in Jonesboro. The session is open to adults aged 18 and up, with registration from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by the class from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
The event aims to encourage community members to unwind, stretch, and enjoy outdoor activity together. Organizers ask participants to bring their own mat and water for the session.
This announcement comes as Clayton County continues to see changes in its school enrollment figures. Enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by 2.5% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to data from the Georgia Department of Education. During that same period, county schools enrolled a total of 61,644 students according to official reports.
The demographic makeup of Clayton County schools reflects significant diversity. Black students made up the largest ethnic group at local schools during the last academic year at 68%, while Hispanic students represented the second largest group at 24% as reported by state education data. Multiracial students were third most represented at three percent of enrollment according to state statistics, while white students accounted for two percent of county student enrollment during this time frame based on state records.
