Clayton County Parks and Recreation Director Nicole Horne announced on June 2 that the department will host a Sunset Pilates in the Park event at Lake Spivey Recreation Center, located at 2300 Walt Stephens Road in Jonesboro. The event is scheduled for Friday, June 26, with registration from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a pilates session from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The session is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mat and water. “Bring a mat and water, and come unwind, stretch, and enjoy the outdoors with us,” Horne said in the announcement. Clayton County schools enrolled a total of 61,644 students in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. Enrollment dropped by 2.5% compared to the previous year.
Black students made up the largest ethnic group within Clayton County schools at 68%, while Hispanic students represented 24%. Multiracial students were third most represented at 3%, while white students accounted for just 2% of enrollment during that period, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
The Sunset Pilates event is part of ongoing community programs offered by Clayton County Parks and Recreation.
