Clayton County announced on April 22 that several Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) projects are moving forward, including the completion of the new Clayton County Fire Station No.1, which is now open. The county will host a Ribbon Cutting and Hose Disconnection Ceremony for the fire station on April 28 at 6355 Garden Walk Blvd., Riverdale.
These updates reflect ongoing efforts to improve public facilities funded by local sales tax revenues. The county also reported continued work at the site of the new Clayton County Administration Building, where clearing and digging for a retention area is underway.
In addition to infrastructure updates, recent data shows changes in local school enrollment. Enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by 2.5% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. Overall, Clayton County schools enrolled a total of 61,644 students during that period as reported by the Georgia Department of Education.
Demographic information reveals that Black students made up the largest portion of students in Clayton County schools at 68%, while Hispanic students represented the second largest group at 24%, according to the Georgia Department of Education. Multiracial students accounted for 3% and White students were least represented at just 2% as noted by the Georgia Department of Education.
