Commissioner DeMont Davis announced on Apr. 13 that applications are open for The Commissioner DeMont Davis Higher Education Scholarship, aimed at Clayton County graduating high school students and recent graduates for the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
The scholarship is intended to support local students as they pursue higher education opportunities. This initiative comes at a time when enrollment in Clayton County schools has seen changes in recent years.
Enrollment at Clayton County schools decreased by 2.5% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to data from the Georgia Department of Education. In total, county schools enrolled 61,644 students during that period according to the same source.
Demographic data shows that Black students made up the largest group within Clayton County schools at 68% of the student body in the same school year according to state records. Hispanic students were the second most represented group at 24%, while multiracial students accounted for about 3%. White students were reported as making up just two percent of all enrolled pupils according to official statistics.
