Commissioner DeMont Davis announced on April 10 that a 5K walk will be held in honor of Nicholas Howard on Saturday, April 18 at Clayton County International Park, located at 2300 Walt Stephens Road in Jonesboro, Georgia. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
The walk aims to bring the community together and commemorate the memory of Nicholas Howard. Events like this are part of efforts to strengthen connections among residents and encourage public participation in local activities.
Clayton County schools have experienced changes in enrollment recently. Enrollment dropped by 2.5% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. During that same period, Clayton County schools enrolled a total of 61,644 students according to official data.
Demographic data from the county’s schools show that Black students were the most represented ethnic group, making up 68% of the student body during the 2022-23 school year according to state statistics. Hispanic students comprised the second largest group at 24%, while multiracial students made up about three percent according to education records. White students were least represented among major groups at two percent for that academic year as reported by state sources.
