State Representative Derrick Jackson recently welcomed 30 Mandela Washington Fellows from various African nations to the Georgia State Capitol. These fellows are set to visit Georgia State University this summer as part of the Public Management and Leadership Institute.
Rep. Jackson expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the group, stating, “This is my fourth time hosting these fellows at the State Capitol, and I am thankful to show these distinguished young leaders how our state government operates and the history within our Gold Dome.” He emphasized the program’s value in allowing innovators from African countries to enhance their leadership skills in the U.S., which they can then apply in their own communities. During their stay, they will engage in five weeks of intensive academic and leadership training at Georgia State University.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is a central component of the U.S. Government’s Young African Leaders Initiative. Since its inception in 2014, it has brought nearly 7,200 young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa to the United States for educational and leadership development. The fellowship targets individuals aged 25 to 35 who are recognized as innovators and leaders within their respective communities.
