District 3 Commissioner Tashé Allen will host the District 3 Citizens Academy on the first Thursday of each month. The program is designed to help residents learn about how Clayton County Government operates. Sessions are scheduled at the South Clayton Recreation Center, located at 1837 McDonough Rd., Hampton, GA 30228, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Registration for participation is open until January 19, 2026.
The academy will cover several topics throughout the year. These include “County Government 101” on February 5, “Budget & Property Taxes” on March 5, and “Economic Development” on April 2. Other sessions focus on elections and voter education, policy and ordinances, planning and zoning, transportation issues, public safety, parks and recreation services, senior services, libraries, and a session connecting with Commissioner Allen followed by graduation in November.
Clayton County schools have seen a decrease in enrollment by 2.5% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). In that same period, total enrollment was reported at 61,644 students (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students made up only two percent of the county’s student body during this time (https://www.gadoe.org/).
Commissioner Allen said the academy aims to provide insight into various aspects of local government operations.
