The Atlanta Falcons have made changes to their practice squad ahead of the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On Saturday, the team released defensive lineman Simeon Barrow Jr. from the practice squad and signed wide receiver David Sills V to take his place.
Following these moves, the Falcons announced that Sills and running back Carlos Washington Jr. will be elevated to the active roster for Sunday’s game. Both players are being called up under the standard elevation rule.
Sills was previously released from Atlanta’s 53-man active roster on Friday. He has played in 16 NFL games since 2021 with experience on both the Denver Broncos and New York Giants rosters. His most notable season came in 2022, when he recorded 11 receptions for 106 yards across nine games.
Washington joined Atlanta as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and has mainly spent time on the practice squad. He was added to the active roster late last season after running back Jase McClellan went on injured reserve, making one appearance during a Week 18 overtime loss to Carolina as a special teams player. Washington missed much of this year’s training camp and preseason due to a hamstring injury.
The matchup between Atlanta and Tampa Bay is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with live coverage provided by FOX.
According to league rules, each NFL team can elevate two players from its practice squad per game day; a player may be elevated three times in a season before needing to be signed to the full roster for further appearances.
The current list of standard elevations for Week 1 includes wide receiver David Sills V and running back Carlos Washington Jr.
