The Atlanta Falcons concluded their mandatory minicamp with a low-key practice session on Wednesday. This marked the second and final open practice, maintaining a similar structure to Tuesday’s activities. Head coach Raheem Morris referred to the concluding session as a “young-guy period,” focusing on developmental players.
During the 11-on-11 drills, cornerback Lamar Jackson intercepted quarterback Emory Jones’ pass intended for wide receiver Nick Nash. Jones took all the reps behind center while quarterbacks Michael Penix Jr., Kirk Cousins, and Easton Stick observed from the sidelines.
Rookie edge rushers Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. were active against Jones, showcasing their potential aggressiveness for future games.
Several players were absent from practice, including wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge, tight end Kyle Pitts Sr., and right tackle Kaleb McGary. Morris noted that defensive lineman Morgan Fox was excused for personal reasons.
In a light-hearted moment, wide receivers attempted to throw footballs into buckets placed in opposite corners of the end zone but failed to score any hits. Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson also participated without success.
With minicamp concluded, the Falcons will take a five-week break before returning for training camp in late July. Morris emphasized that players have met with staff members to discuss preparation plans during this period.
“As a coach, it’s a different break than it is for a player in how they prepare for when they come back,” Morris stated. He highlighted the importance of connecting players with mentors who have experienced similar situations.
The team aims to ensure that this break serves as both rest and preparation time for players ahead of their return.
