The Atlanta Falcons lost to the Indianapolis Colts 31-25 in overtime on Sunday, marking the NFL’s first regular-season game at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. The defeat extends the Falcons’ losing streak to four games, leaving them with a 3-6 record heading into Week 11.
This loss impacts Atlanta’s playoff hopes as they prepare for two upcoming NFC South matchups. The team will face the Carolina Panthers and then play the New Orleans Saints for their first meeting this season. With these losses, the Falcons have fallen further behind in their division.
The Colts’ offense was effective early in the game, with Indianapolis producing seven plays of 10 or more yards in the first quarter alone—more than any other opening quarter against Atlanta this season. These plays led to 13 points for Indianapolis in that period.
Colts running back Jonathan Taylor had a key moment with an 83-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, regaining the lead for Indianapolis late in regulation. This was the longest run recorded by any player in the NFL this season. Previously, Falcons running back Bijan Robinson held that mark with an 81-yard touchdown against Buffalo in Week 6.
Falcons edge rushers Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr., both recent first-round draft picks, combined for a strip sack and fumble recovery for a second consecutive week. In Week 9 against New England, Walker forced a fumble recovered by Pearce; this time against Indianapolis, Pearce sacked quarterback Daniel Jones while Walker recovered.
Atlanta struggled on third downs throughout Sunday’s contest, failing to convert any of their eight attempts. Over their last four games, they have converted just eight out of forty third-down tries—a conversion rate of only 20 percent.
Despite these struggles, Atlanta succeeded on all three red zone trips during the game.
Several players reached individual milestones during Sunday’s matchup:
Tight end Charlie Woerner made a 14-yard reception—the fourth-longest catch of his career.
Wide receiver Drake London scored his fourth touchdown over two games—a feat matched by only six other Falcons since Calvin Ridley did so in 2020.
Safety Jessie Bates III intercepted Daniel Jones for his 26th career pick—the fourth most among active NFL players.
Injuries also affected Atlanta: Defensive lineman Sam Roberts left with an ankle injury; cornerback Dee Alford exited after being evaluated for a concussion; wide receiver Drake London was cleared to return after evaluation; and linebacker DeAngelo Malone was ruled out late due to an ankle issue.
After the game, editorial staff shared brief reactions:
Tori McElhaney said: “The Falcons were 0 for 8 on third down Sunday. They were 1 for 10 last week. They had a 25% conversion rate in their last three losses. It dropped even closer to 20% in Germany. This is not sustainable.”
Will McFadden commented: “Atlanta’s defense has been consistent when the team needs it most. The same can’t be said for the other two units.”
Terrin Waack noted: “Can we go to Germany every year? That was an incredible environment — and an incredible game.”
Looking ahead, Atlanta will host Carolina next Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for another divisional matchup. The teams previously met in Week 3 when Carolina won decisively.
