The Atlanta Falcons were defeated by the Carolina Panthers 30-27 in an overtime game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with an attendance of 70,739 fans. This loss marks the second time this season that Atlanta has been beaten by Carolina, a sweep that last occurred in 2013 and has now happened four times in the history of their rivalry.

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson scored two rushing touchdowns, bringing his total to six for the season. Alongside Tyler Allgeier, who also has six scrimmage touchdowns, they join Detroit Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery as the only running back duos with such numbers through Week 11. Robinson’s performance against Carolina is notable; he has now recorded three games with multiple rushing touchdowns against them, matching Michael Turner’s record from 2008-2011. Robinson finished Sunday’s game with 143 yards from scrimmage and leads the league since 2023 with 24 games of at least 100 yards from scrimmage.

Wide receiver Drake London reached over 100 receiving yards for a third consecutive game, currently the longest active streak in the NFL.

For the first time since 1984, three Falcons rookies—Jalon Walker (four sacks), James Pearce Jr. (2.5 sacks), and Billy Bowman Jr. (1.5 sacks)—have each recorded at least 1.5 sacks in a single season.

The Falcons have managed to score touchdowns on ten straight red-zone drives, including three during this matchup against Carolina; this is their second-longest such streak after an eleven-drive run set in 2018.

On defense, despite recording five sacks against Carolina—and totaling eighteen over their last three games—the Falcons became the first team in Super Bowl era history to lose all three contests while achieving that level of pass rush success.

Panthers quarterback Bryce Young threw for 448 yards—ranking sixth-most ever allowed by Atlanta—with Tetairoa McMillan catching eight passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

Head coach Raheem Morris commented on his leadership following another close defeat: “We’ve lost a bunch of games in a row in tight moments. You’ve got to find a way to win those games, man. It definitely is on me. There’s no such thing as a losing team; there’s only a losing leader. I’m the leader, and we lost.”

Running back Tyler Allgeier addressed how he handles outside criticism: “Who cares what sheep say to a lion?”

Panthers head coach Dave Canales described his team’s halftime adjustments: “Simply put, it was tackling in the first half, and Bijan (Robinson) really just went off. We had guys in position, and he made us miss a couple of times. That’s where we have to have the full group rallied into the ball… Playing the little details… That really wasn’t the full story, it was really just about the guys getting in position to get the guy down.”

This marks Atlanta’s second consecutive overtime loss; they are now winless (0-2) across both games—a scenario that previously occurred only once before for them since overtime was introduced in 1974.

Looking ahead, Atlanta (3-7) will travel to face division rival New Orleans Saints (2-8) at Caesars Superdome next Sunday at 4:25 p.m., broadcast live on FOX.
