The Atlanta Falcons are preparing for a rematch against the Carolina Panthers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Week 11, aiming to recover from a previous shutout loss to their NFC South rivals earlier in the season.

This week, the Falcons made several roster changes due to injuries. Offensive tackle Storm Norton was placed back on injured reserve after his 21-day window to return closed. Norton had ankle surgery during the preseason and initially returned to practice but suffered a setback that will keep him out for the rest of the season under league rules. Additionally, linebacker and special teams contributor DeAngelo Malone was also moved to injured reserve following an ankle injury that required surgery.

“(Malone) is going to miss time, had a big-time injury,” head coach Raheem Morris said Wednesday. “He’ll be going to IR. That was the big one.”

The team’s injury report this week included key players such as Drake London, Chris Lindstrom, and Mike Hughes among thirteen listed with game designations for Sunday’s matchup.

On-field performance has been affected by ongoing issues on third downs. Over their last two losses, the Falcons have converted only one of nineteen third-down attempts. Since starting their current four-game losing streak, they have converted just 20% of third downs. Analysis revealed that protection breakdowns along the offensive line have led to frequent pressure on quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who has struggled with accuracy and decision-making on longer third-down plays. The slow development of route concepts has also contributed to these problems.

Running back Tyler Allgeier continues to play an important role despite challenges in the run game leading to many third-and-long situations. Head coach Raheem Morris commented on Allgeier’s contributions: “He’s one of those guys that just comes to work every day and does his job. We talk about these operational executions, these operations pieces, and it’s just what Tyler is. Wherever you put him, whatever you ask him to do, he’s able to go out there and have that resiliency and that toughness. He’s able to just play the game, play the play — whatever it is — and be ready to go. That’s why we love him.”

In terms of defensive highlights, seven different Falcons players each recorded at least one sack in last Sunday’s game against the Colts—a feat matched by only one other NFL team this season since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr., paired with wide receiver Drake London since Week 16 of last season, has accumulated 1,034 receiving yards together—ranking them second among all NFL quarterback-receiver duos over that period.

Defensively, Atlanta is holding opponents to a conversion rate of just 50% on third-and-one situations this year—tied for second-best in the league compared with an average rate of nearly 68%.
