The Atlanta Falcons have added kicker Parker Romo to their practice squad, the team announced on Tuesday. This move follows a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero earlier in the day regarding the signing.
To accommodate Romo’s addition, the Falcons released edge rusher Ronnie Perkins from their roster.
Head coach Raheem Morris had indicated Monday that changes might be coming at kicker following Younghoe Koo’s missed 44-yard field goal attempt that could have tied Atlanta’s Week 1 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons ultimately lost that contest.
Morris said, “the Falcons wanted to look at both veteran and young kickers this week.” He added that competition would be brought in as soon as Tuesday for Koo after Sunday’s miss.
Romo joins the team with some experience in the league. He was first signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2022 but did not play until 2024 when he joined the Minnesota Vikings’ active roster. In four games last season for Minnesota, Romo converted 11 of his 12 field goal attempts and made seven of eight extra points. His only missed field goal came from 43 yards during a narrow win over the Arizona Cardinals.
With Romo now on board, Atlanta currently has three kickers ahead of their Week 2 matchup against Minnesota: starter Younghoe Koo, rookie Lenny Krieg—who remains exempt from counting toward the practice squad limit due to international player status—and now Romo.
