The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on April 10 that contractors will close lanes and ramps on Interstate 85 in Clayton and Fulton counties this weekend as part of a concrete slab rehabilitation project. The work will affect five miles between State Route 139/Riverdale Road and State Route 3/Metropolitan Parkway, with the goal of repairing and extending the life of the roadway’s concrete materials.

These closures are scheduled each weekend night starting Friday, April 10, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following mornings, weather permitting. Two left lanes will be closed on I-85 southbound between SR 139/Riverdale Road (exit 71) and SR 6/Camp Creek Parkway (exit 74). In addition, the northbound exit ramp to I-285 will be closed to traffic, with roadside signage directing drivers to detour routes.

The $7.1 million project is expected to be completed by late spring of next year. The department cautions motorists to reduce speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention, and watch for workers. Real-time updates are available by calling Georgia’s travel information line at 511 or visiting 511ga.org.
