The Georgia Department of Education reported that Haynie Elementary School had six white students enrolled in the 2024-25 academic year, representing a 60% decrease compared to the prior year.
Data indicated Haynie Elementary’s total enrollment reached 699 students for 2024-25. White students accounted for 1% of the student population, marking them as one of the school’s smallest demographic groups.
Located within the Clayton County School District, Haynie Elementary’s central offices are based in Jonesboro.
Out of 65 schools in the Clayton County district, Jonesboro High School had the largest white student enrollment, with 47 students reported for 2024-25.
According to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report, more than 1.7 million students attended Georgia’s public schools. The majority were enrolled in elementary grades with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle school at 388,733 (22.7%) and high school at 539,092 (31.4%).
Post-pandemic, Georgia schools continue to face challenges with chronic absenteeism, as 20.7% of students missed at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, the GaDOE introduced a statewide initiative with real-time attendance tracking, a public awareness campaign, and targeted support in high-need districts to improve attendance rates.
In 2025, Georgia legislators enacted a law updating school attendance requirements and prohibiting expulsion solely due to absenteeism. The updated law also introduces reporting mandates and supports diploma completion through alternative programs.
By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, better than the national average of 15:1.
