Homestead Road railroad crossing in Rex to close for four days in February

Norfolk Southern Railroad is scheduled to begin work on the railroad crossing at Homestead Road in Rex, Georgia, 30273. The project will start on Monday, February 9, 2026, and is expected to last until Thursday, February 12, 2026, depending on weather conditions. During this period, no traffic will be able to cross the tracks at Homestead Road.

Traffic control measures and signage will be used to guide motorists safely around the work zone. Access for residents and businesses within the area will be maintained for homes, mail and package delivery, emergency services, and trash collection.

Motorists are advised to use caution, plan their travel routes in advance, follow posted detours, and avoid the area if possible. Detours will be available at Evans Drive via Rex Road and State Route 42.

Clayton County schools enrolled a total of 61,644 students in the 2022-23 school year according to data from the Georgia Department of Education (https://www.gadoe.org/). Enrollment declined by 2.5% compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). Black students represented the largest group in Clayton County schools at 68%, followed by Hispanic students at 24% (https://www.gadoe.org/). Multiracial students made up 3%, while White students accounted for just 2% of the student body during that time (https://www.gadoe.org/).
