In the 2024-25 school year, Jonesboro High School enrolled 1,113 African American students—a 10.4% increase compared to the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Chronic absenteeism remains a significant challenge in Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education reported. The GaDOE responded with a statewide initiative that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, public awareness efforts, and targeted support for high-need districts aiming to improve daily attendance.

In 2025, a new bill was passed by Georgia lawmakers updating school attendance laws, prohibiting expulsion solely for absenteeism and introducing new reporting rules along with support for alternative diploma pathways.

By 2026, Georgia reported an average student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1, outperforming the national average of 15:1.
