Mount Zion High School saw 23 multiracial students enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, a decline of 32.4% compared with the previous year, the Georgia Department of Education reported.
According to the data, Mount Zion High had a total enrollment of 1,193 students for 2024-25. Multiracial students represented 2% of the overall student population, making them the second smallest group at the school.
The school operates within Clayton County School District, which is headquartered in Jonesboro.
Out of 65 schools in the Clayton County School District, Lovejoy High School had the largest enrollment of multiracial students for 2024-25, at 59 students.
Georgia public schools enrolled over 1.7 million students, based on the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. The highest enrollment was in elementary school with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle school at 388,733 students (22.7%) and high school at 539,092 students (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to challenge Georgia schools in the post-pandemic period, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education said. The department launched an initiative featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a public campaign, and additional support for high-need districts to encourage attendance.
In 2025, state lawmakers revised attendance laws, prohibiting expulsions solely for absenteeism. The updated law also places new reporting obligations on districts and coordinates with alternative diploma programs.
By 2026, Georgia’s student-to-teacher ratio averaged about 14:1, better than the national average of 15:1.
