The Office of Digital Equity announced on April 13 that it will host a free Navigating Technology Training session for senior citizens on Monday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at JenCare Senior Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia. The event is designed to help older adults learn the basics of using computers and mobile devices while also offering guidance on digital security.
This training aims to support seniors as they adapt to an increasingly digital world by providing hands-on instruction in navigating personal computers, laptops, Apple iPhones, and iPads. Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices for personalized assistance. Registration is required due to limited space.
Clayton County’s changing demographics may impact the need for such programs. Enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by 2.5% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In total, Clayton County schools enrolled 61,644 students during that period according to state data.
The county’s student body reflects a diverse community: Black students made up the largest group at 68%, followed by Hispanic students at 24%. Multiracial students accounted for about 3%, while White students represented only about 2% of enrollment during the same school year as reported by official statistics.
As more services move online and technology becomes essential in daily life, local initiatives like this training session aim to bridge gaps in access and understanding among senior residents.
