The Office of Digital Equity announced on May 1 that it will hold a free Introduction to Canva Training session on Monday, May 11, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the South Clayton Recreation Center in Hampton, Georgia.
The training is designed for participants interested in learning how to use Canva, a graphic design tool for creating visuals such as social media posts, presentations, flyers, and business materials. The course aims to help attendees understand templates, fonts, colors, and design elements through hands-on projects. Computers will be available at the location and participants may also bring their own laptops. Registration is required due to limited space.
This initiative comes as Clayton County schools reported an enrollment decline of 2.5% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year according to the Georgia Department of Education. Despite this decrease, schools enrolled a total of 61,644 students in that period as reported by the Georgia Department of Education.
Student demographics show that Black students comprised the largest group at county schools during the same school year at 68%, while Hispanic students made up 24% according to data from the Georgia Department of Education. Multiracial students represented about 3% and White students were among the least represented groups at just over 2% as stated by state education officials.
By offering digital skills workshops like this Canva training session, local organizations seek to provide residents with opportunities for personal and professional development amid changing educational trends.
