State Representative Derrick Jackson (D-Tyrone) is set to host students from the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business at the Georgia State Capitol on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The visit is part of the university’s 2025 “Business of Sports Tour,” which aims to give students exposure to the intersection of sports, leadership, and economic development in the Southeast.
“This tour provides students with a hands-on understanding of how business, policy and community development come together in one of the most influential industries in the nation,” said Rep. Jackson. “We’re honored to welcome these bright young minds to Atlanta and the Georgia State Capitol to witness how leadership and collaboration drive real change.”
The Business of Sports Tour serves as a professional development opportunity for Haslam School of Business students. It connects them with executives from major sports organizations such as the Atlanta Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta Vibe, and the Atlanta Braves. Rep. Jackson will lead a discussion focused on public policy, entrepreneurship, and the economic influence of Georgia’s sports industry.
The agenda includes a roundtable with state legislators, industry leaders, and civic partners that will address career opportunities, corporate partnerships, and innovation within sports business and public leadership. Participants will also have networking opportunities with individuals shaping Georgia’s business environment.
Jon G. Burns was elected as a Republican representative for Georgia’s 159th House District in 2005.
