In the 2024-25 school year, Rising Starr Middle School had 635 white students enrolled, a decline of 3.1% from the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
The school’s total enrollment for 2024-25 was 935 students. White students represented 68% of that population, making them the school’s largest demographic group.
Rising Starr Middle School is part of Fayette County School District, whose central office is located in Fayetteville.
Starrs Mill High School, among the 24 schools in the Fayette County School District, had the district’s largest number of white students during the 2024-25 school year, totaling 926.
The National Center for Education Statistics reported Georgia public school demographics as follows: 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
Chronic absenteeism has persisted as a significant concern for Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education said. In response, the state education department implemented a statewide initiative that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, increased public awareness, and focused assistance for districts with the greatest needs to help raise daily attendance.
In 2025, state lawmakers updated attendance laws to prohibit expulsions solely for absenteeism, to require new reporting procedures, and to support programs for earning diplomas through alternative routes.
As of 2026, data showed Georgia’s average student–teacher ratio was about 14:1, which is lower than the national average of 15:1.
