During the first quarter of 2026, Riverdale Center for Nursing and Healing was identified as the second largest nursing facility in Clayton County, as reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The facility offered a total of 152 beds, which is eight fewer than the county average for the period. On average, it cared for 133.1 residents each day throughout the quarter.
The CMS gave Riverdale Center for Nursing and Healing an overall rating of 2 out of 5, falling below the statewide average rating of 2.7 for Georgia nursing homes.
In the same quarter, Lake City Center for Nursing and Healing, LLC led the county with 242 beds, while Jonesboro Center for Nursing and Healing, LLC was third with 129 beds available.
Riverdale Center for Nursing and Healing was issued two fines totaling $10,050 and incurred three penalties as of the first quarter of 2026.
There were four for-profit nursing homes operating in Clayton County, Georgia, at that time.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the nation’s older adult population continues to expand while younger segments are decreasing. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, as the under-18 population declined by 1.7%. The older adult demographic has risen sharply during the last century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.
A study from 2021 finds that about half of individuals in this age group—roughly 28 million—are likely to need long-term care and support, with projections indicating that more than a third may ultimately need nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
