It’s often said that “game recognizes game.” On Monday, former professional quarterback and current football analyst Robert Griffin III expressed his positive views on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. through a series of tweets.
Griffin, who played for the Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns, and Baltimore Ravens during his career, described Penix as a standout player. The Falcons drafted Penix last year with the No. 8 overall pick, a decision that surprised some because they had signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins just a month earlier. However, the choice quickly proved beneficial.
By Week 16 of the 2024 season, due to performance issues with Cousins, the Falcons decided to start Penix. In his final three games of the season, Penix completed 58 out of 100 pass attempts for 737 yards, achieving three touchdowns and three interceptions. He also managed seven carries for 11 yards and scored one rushing touchdown while being sacked three times.
The team finished those games with a record of 1-2 under Penix’s leadership, concluding their season at 8-9. After the season ended, the Falcons confirmed their plan to continue with Penix as their starting quarterback in 2025 despite Cousins remaining on the roster. The organization is united in support of this decision.
