Southland Health and Rehabilitation ranked as the county’s second largest nursing home during the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) show.
The facility offered a total of 155 beds, which was four below Fayette County’s average in early 2026. Its average daily resident count for that timeframe reached 147.7.
The CMS assigned the center an overall score of 2 out of 5, below the state average rating of 2.7 among Georgia’s nursing homes.
In the same period, Fayetteville Center for Nursing & Healing, LLC led county facilities in size, offering 162 available beds.
Southland Health and Rehabilitation did not receive any fines or penalties as of the first quarter of 2026.
For the quarter, Fayette County, Georgia, had one non-profit nursing facility in operation.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate older adults now outnumber youth, as the under-18 population shrinks. From 2020 to 2024, those age 65 and up grew by 13%, while the youth population decreased by 1.7%. Across a century, the nation’s older adult population rose sharply from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study found that about half of Americans in this demographic—estimated at 28 million—could eventually need long-term services and supports. Over a third may require care in a nursing home during their lifetime.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an educational advocacy group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
| Rank | Nursing Home | Overall Rating |
