There was an incident earlier this afternoon on Steele Rd. that had a large Sheriff's Office, Spalding County Fire, and EMS response from multiple locations in the county. Based on the evidence found, a person under the influence of narcotics wrecked his car and entered the Buddhist Temple location on Steele Rd. on foot. While there, he stole one of their busses and drove it down a path, eventually crashing into a pavilion. He was removed from the vehicle by emergency personnel when they arrived. He received a head injury during the crash and was transported by Life Flight to a hospital in Macon.
The Georgia State Patrol is working the accident and the Spalding County Sheriff's Office is handling the vehicle theft and other charges. Deputies had contact with the Monks who live at the facility and everyone is ok. No one except the driver, who was identified as Ben Stallings, W/M 61, was injured. This was not an attack on a religious facility and there is no indication of any bias. There were no shots fired by anyone involved in this incident or during this event as has been posted elsewhere on social media.
