On December 12, 2022, at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Clayton County Police Department - Bomb Squad arrived on scene to assist Morrow GA Police Department in reference to an explosion that occurred in a residential area. Please review the following narrative released by the Morrow GA Police Department.
"Morrow PD was dispatched to Burbank Trail regarding an explosion. Upon arrival, officers observed a powdery substance and remnants of a plastic container in the roadway. Contact was made with Joseph Borlie, Jr., 57. A witness on scene advised that Borlie lit the device which exploded shortly thereafter, sending small particles of marble and/or tile fragments in every direction. The blast radius measured approximately 65 feet. Residents 8-10 houses away reported windows rattling and items falling from their fireplace mantle.
Borlie has been charged with Manufacturing an Explosive Device and Reckless Conduct.
A search warrant was obtained for his residence. Upon service, detectives discovered a large amount of marijuana and additional potential bomb-making materials. It is unknown at this time if there are any active devices in the residence."
Members of the Clayton County Police Department Bomb Squad arrived on scene to assist.
