Media Advisory – Teenagers Arrested After Spotted in Stolen Vehicle
On January 17, 2023, Clayton County Police Officers were advised by the Lieutenant on shift that he just received a Flock Alert in reference to a stolen Silver Hyundai Sonata in the area of Flint River Road and Thomas Road. Clayton County Police Officers immediately responded to the area and immediately observed the vehicle turning into the apartment complex located in the 700th block of Pointe South Parkway, Jonesboro, GA.
Officers were already in the area as the suspect attempted to allude officers. The driver of the vehicle hit a small curb, exited the vehicle, and ran on foot. K-9 Handler Sgt. S. Buice and K-9 Garon immediately responded to the scene to track the suspect. While tracking, K-9 Garon located a shoe belonging to the suspect and tracked to the back door of the suspect’s apartment. K-9 Garon continued to return to that specific apartment multiple times while tracking.
It was determined that the driver of the vehicle was a 14-year-old juvenile. The juvenile’s name and picture will not be released. The juvenile was located inside that apartment. The juvenile also changed his clothes in attempt to further allude officers. The juvenile is charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, and Curfew Violation.
The passenger, Decarri Duffy (18-year-old male), was immediately apprehended by officers as he exited the vehicle. Decarri Duffy was charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.
The attached video is just a small clip of how K-9 Garon tracked the suspects in this incident. No officers or suspects were injured during this apprehension.
