U.S. Representative Drew Ferguson (R-GA) has announced his intention to retire from the House of Representatives after the current term, expressing a wish to prioritize family and continue contributing to the welfare of his home state outside of elected office. Ferguson currently represents Georgia's third congressional district.

In a press release issued by Ferguson's office, he said, "Upon the conclusion of the 118th Congress, I will be retiring from the House of Representatives. Serving the wonderful constituents of Georgia’s Third District has been the honor of a lifetime. I have been blessed to have worked with such a talented and dedicated staff in my District and D.C. offices. Serving on the Ways and Means Committee has allowed me to focus on tax, trade, and healthcare – issues important to American competitiveness on the global stage. I’ve also been proud to advance policies addressing antimicrobial resistance and the battle we are facing with a mental health crisis. I was also honored to serve in House leadership as the Chief Deputy Whip."

As reported by The Hill, Ferguson's announcement follows former Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) removal from his leadership role in a historic vote in October. Ferguson, along with other members, reported receiving threats after he changed his vote to oppose House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) candidacy for Speaker, citing concerns about Jordan’s tactics.

In another press release issued by his office, Ferguson said: "Shortly after casting that vote, my family and I started receiving death-threats. That is simply unacceptable, unforgivable, and will never be tolerated."

U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) acknowledged Ferguson's decision via social media post saying: "Thank you for your hard work serving Georgia’s 3rd District, @RepDrewFerguson! We will miss you up here in Washington. Wishing the best for you and your family."

According to information available on Ferguson's website, Georgia's 3rd congressional district is primarily located in west-central Georgia and includes the southern suburbs of Atlanta, along with areas of Columbus and its northern suburbs.
