ATLANTA — About three-quarters of the way into Friday's practice, Drake London made a play that stood out as the highlight of the day at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. London caught a deep ball down the right sideline, maintaining possession despite falling to the turf and staying in bounds. Cornerback A.J. Terrell had tight coverage, but London's effort prevailed.

"It was a classic, physical catch from London," an observer noted, recalling similar catches he made in Week 5 against the Houston Texans and Week 6 versus the Washington Commanders.

With several thousand fans cheering after London's completion, it became clear that his performance was noteworthy.

Discussions have frequently centered on Cousins' connection with Kyle Pitts during training camp. Pitts has shown signs of a strong comeback year. However, today marked one of London's most comfortable performances.

Previously, London had to leave practice due to overheating but returned with a solid showing at Seckinger High School. In this practice session, he stood out well before his notable grab.

On the play preceding his highlight catch, London made another solid reception with good coverage by Terrell. During the Falcons' 11-on-11 red zone period, London caught the lone touchdown pass.

From my count, London caught all eight passes thrown his way during practice.

London appears poised for a breakout season in his third year, especially with Cousins as quarterback. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris has already drawn some significant comparisons.

"Back in the day when we were led by Julio Jones and Roddy White. Roddy White's toughness jumped off and it transitioned to Muhammad Sanu. And you've seen those guys play with that type of toughness, guys like Justin Hardy. Drake has that dog mentality of Harry Douglas," Morris said. "It's the history of the Falcons wideout. He's carrying that with a high standard and a high banner."

Morris' praise is notable given his history coaching Jones and Sanu from 2016-19 when he served as the Falcons' wide receivers coach. He coached Jones to a first-team All-Pro year during his tenure.

At Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Friday night, London provided a glimpse of what might be expected this season.
