The Atlanta Falcons have placed wide receiver Rondale Moore on their reserve/injured list, the team announced Thursday. Moore sustained a knee injury during Wednesday's joint practice with the Miami Dolphins and was carted off the field with an air cast on his right leg.
The incident occurred during one of the final 11-on-11 periods when the Falcons' second-team offense faced the Dolphins' second-team defense. Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw an incomplete pass to wide receiver Josh Ali in the back right corner of the end zone. Attention soon shifted to Moore, who was down and attended to by trainers before being strapped to a stretcher and transferred onto a cart. The practice ended prematurely as the Falcons gathered for a team moment.
"Certainly thoughts and prayers are with Rondale," said Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Moore joined the Falcons in an offseason trade from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for quarterback Desmond Ridder. He was listed as a backup option at wide receiver and kickoff returner but had been earning more first-team reps since full-pads work began last week.
In response to Moore's injury, the Falcons signed punter Ryan Sanborn, an undrafted free agent from the University of Texas. Sanborn punted 40 times for 1,828 yards, averaging 45.7 yards per punt during his final collegiate season. This marks Sanborn's second stint with Atlanta; he was initially signed after the 2024 NFL Draft but was released on July 24.
The Falcons already have punter Bradley Pinion on their roster, who has been with the organization since 2022 and signed a three-year deal in 2023. Training camp could provide an opportunity for Sanborn to make his mark in the NFL.
The Falcons will open their preseason against the Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. ET, airing locally on FOX 5.
