The Atlanta Falcons have signed safety Josh Thompson and cornerback William Hooper, the team announced Monday. In a corresponding move, the Falcons released wide receiver Austin Mack and running back Robert Burns.
Thompson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022. During his rookie season, he appeared in six games with the Tennessee Titans, exclusively on special teams. He did not play in 2023 and spent part of that season on the Titans' practice squad. This spring, he was with the Houston Texans but was waived in April.
Hooper also joined the league as an undrafted free agent in 2023 with the Green Bay Packers. Although he has yet to play in a live game, he has spent time with both the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals.
Mack participated in seven offensive snaps during the Falcons' loss to the Miami Dolphins last Friday but did not catch his one targeted pass. Burns had been on the Falcons' Physically Unable to Perform list since July.
