FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Falcons have reportedly signed Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons, making headlines for the second time in 24 hours. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the deal is a one-year contract valued at $8 million, with $7.5 million fully guaranteed.

This announcement coincides with the Falcons' agreement to acquire Pro Bowl pass rusher Matthew Judon from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick.

Simmons' signing has been widely discussed since Rapoport reported his visit to the Falcons’ facility in Flowery Branch, Ga., on Monday and Tuesday. KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson later reported that Simmons had dinner with Falcons defensive lineman Grady Jarrett and cornerback A.J. Terrell during his visit.

A top free agent this preseason, Simmons spent the last eight seasons with the Denver Broncos after being drafted in 2016. He was selected to two Pro Bowls, most recently after the 2023 season. Falcons' safety Jessie Bates III also earned a Pro Bowl selection last year.

Simmons brings significant experience to complement Bates. He has recorded at least two interceptions each year and led the league with six interceptions in 2022. His career total of 30 interceptions is the highest among players since he entered the league.

The signing follows an ankle injury sustained by second-year safety DeMarcco Hellams during their first preseason game against Miami. Competing with Richie Grant for a starting spot opposite Bates, Hellams will be out for a "significant period of time," according to head coach Raheem Morris.

Simmons joins Bates, Richie Grant, Hellams, and Micah Abernathy in the Falcons' safety room.
