As the Atlanta Falcons secured a victory against the Carolina Panthers, tight end Charlie Woerner played a crucial role in the team's rushing success. Although his name was not frequently mentioned in the game book, his blocking efforts were vital for running back Bijan Robinson's performance, who completed 15 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
Robinson praised Woerner's contribution, saying, "It helps tremendously, and he knows it, too... He's always appreciative; he's just so low-key about it. He's like, 'Bro, I got you,' every single time."
Woerner also assisted Tyler Allgeier in achieving a team-high 18 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown. The Falcons totaled a season-high of 198 rushing yards during the game.
Despite limited passing opportunities this season with only one reception on two targets for four yards, Woerner values his role based on effort. "I've always gone out there and done what my coaches have asked me to do," he said.
Head coach Raheem Morris highlighted Woerner's impact on the team: "Charlie is certainly – definitely – juicing the energy and a lot of the emotional push behind our run game."
Woerner joined the Falcons after spending four years with the San Francisco 49ers. His reputation as a skilled run blocker has been consistent throughout his career. At 6-foot-5 and weighing 241 pounds, Woerner is recognized more for his blocking capabilities than his receiving skills.
Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins shared insights from another player who had previously played with Woerner: "Someone texted me... He said, 'You're going to love Charlie. He's in Year 5. You'll think he's in Year 12.' And he's right."
Bijan Robinson summed up Woerner's influence by stating, "I think he's the best blocking tight end in the NFL... But just how he goes about his business and how he's just so humble about it."
