FOIA Request to Clayton County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Atlanta News have submitted a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.
Our request specifically pertains to the methods employed by the Clayton County Election Department in counting votes. If these votes are counted manually, we have also requested an estimate of the number of individuals who will be working on election night.
We believe that access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as journalists. These include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public we serve. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news, we hope that our request will be granted without any fee.
This information will aid us in providing our readers with a clear understanding of how their votes are processed and counted during elections. It is part of our broader mission to promote informed civic participation by shedding light on important aspects of local government operations.
We await a response from the Clayton County Election Department and look forward to sharing this information with our readers soon.
