FOIA Request to Spalding County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Atlanta News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Spalding County Election Department. Our request is aimed at obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. The information requested includes:
- The full names of the candidates (first, middle, and last)
- The office each candidate is running for
- The jurisdiction of each office
- Each candidate's party affiliation
Additionally, we have asked for all contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals. We remain committed to disseminating vital information about our local government and its processes.
