Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant challenge for Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education reported. In 2025, Georgia legislators updated attendance laws to prohibit expulsion for absenteeism alone. These updates added new reporting requirements and were designed to align with programs allowing students to earn diplomas through alternative options.
