Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School reports 266 African American students for 2024-25

In the 2024-25 school year, Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School enrolled 266 African American students, marking a 56.5% increase over the previous year, based on information from the Georgia Department of Education.

Total enrollment at Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School reached 310 students for 2024-25. African American students composed 86% of the total, representing the largest demographic at the school.

Located in the Clayton County School District, Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School has its central office based in Jonesboro.

Lovejoy High School recorded the highest number of African American students within the 65 schools in the Clayton County School District for 2024-25, with 1,614 students.

More than 1.7 million students attended Georgia’s public schools, according to the Fiscal Year 2026-1 report from the Georgia Department of Education. Elementary grades enrolled 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle grades with 388,733 (22.7%), and high schools with 539,092 (31.4%).

Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant challenge for Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education reported. GaDOE responded with a statewide effort introducing a real-time attendance dashboard, public awareness campaigns, and targeted support for high-need districts to improve daily attendance.

In 2025, Georgia legislators updated attendance laws to prohibit expulsion for absenteeism alone. These updates added new reporting requirements and were designed to align with programs allowing students to earn diplomas through alternative options.

By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was roughly 14:1, better than the national average of 15:1.
