Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary sees 3 American Indian or Alaska Native students enroll for 2024-25

Three American Indian or Alaska Native students enrolled at Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School in the 2024-25 school year, a 200% increase over the prior year, Georgia Department of Education reports show.

According to the data, Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School recorded 310 students overall in 2024-25. American Indian or Alaska Native students represented 1% of the population, among the smallest demographic groups at the school.

The campus operates within the Clayton County School District, which has its main office in Jonesboro.

Across Clayton County School District’s 65 schools, North Clayton Middle School reported the largest number of American Indian or Alaska Native students in 2024-25, with 8 enrolled.

Statewide, more than 1.7 million students attended Georgia public schools per the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary grades made up the largest share—787,206 students (45.9%)—followed by 388,733 (22.7%) in middle school and 539,092 (31.4%) in high school.

Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant concern in Georgia’s schools since the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more school days in 2024, state education officials reported. To address this, the Georgia Department of Education has started a statewide initiative, which includes a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and focused assistance for districts with greater need.

In 2025, lawmakers in Georgia approved updates to attendance laws, prohibiting expulsion solely due to absenteeism. The changes add new reporting obligations and align with programs offering alternative diploma pathways for students.

As of 2026, Georgia’s student-to-teacher ratio averaged about 14:1, below the national average of 15:1.
