SCTC Foundation Awards 60 Scholarships for Fall Semester

Southern Crescent Technical College issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.

The Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation awarded 60 scholarships totaling $22,650 for students enrolled in the College for Fall Semester 2021.

Of those, the Foundation awarded 29 Internal Tiger Campaign scholarships totaling $11,250. Internal scholarships are funded through contributions from the SCTC faculty and staff primarily through monthly payroll deduction to the Internal Fundraising Campaign. In addition, the Foundation awarded 31 external scholarships totaling $11,400. External scholarships are funded through contributions from business partners, foundations and generous donors within our service community as well as SCTC faculty and staff for program-specific scholarships not included in the Internal Tiger Campaign.

Scholarship applications for Spring Semester 2022 will be available online from September 1 to September 30 at https://www.sctech.edu/foundation/foundation-scholarships/. 

Congratulations to the following students who were awarded Internal scholarships:

The Bill Walden Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship established in memory of former SCTC Business Management instructor Bill Walden for his commitment and contributions to the College. The Foundation awarded six $250 scholarships for a total of $1,500. Those receiving the scholarship for the Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • April Brown – Bibb County – Respiratory Care
  • Joi Gray – Clayton County – Cosmetology
  • Tuesday Manion – Henry County – Forensic Science Technology
  • Rosalyn Mann – Clayton County – Nursing
  • Adrienne Pino – Coweta County – Early childhood Care/Education
  • Hali Sullivan – Fulton County – Respiratory Care
The John Bradley Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship established in memory of John Bradley, former Automotive Collision and Repair instructor at the College, who died of cancer in 2006. The Foundation awarded ten $250 scholarships for a total of $2,500. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • TaniQua Bell – Clayton County – Cardiovascular Technology
  • April Brown – Bibb County – Respiratory Care
  • Krysta Franzen – Butts County – Phlebotomy Technician
  • Joi Gray – Clayton County – Cosmetology
  • Marlo Johnson – Spalding County – Health Care Management
  • Melani Kendrew – Henry County – Radiologic Technology
  • Tuesday Manion – Henry County – Forensic Science Technology
  • Adrienne Pino – Coweta County – Early childhood Care/Education
  • Hali Sullivan – Fulton County – Respiratory Care
  • Teranikia Usher – Henry County – Accounting
The “Make a Difference” Tuition Scholarship is a $900 tuition scholarship to a student who is not eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship, WIOA and/or The PELL Grant and/or any other financial aid. The “Make a Difference” Tuition Scholarship is named in honor of the winning team for the Internal Tiger Campaign for Southern Crescent Technical College. The Foundation awarded six $900 scholarships for a total of $5,400. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • TaniQua Bell – Clayton County – Cardiovascular Technology
  • Brinda Fulton – Gwinnett County – Forensic Science Technology
  • Rosalyn Mann – Clayton County – Nursing
  • Amber Robinson – Pike County – Business Management Degree, Business Technology
  • William Stansell – Spalding County – CNC Technology
  • Chequilia Stinson – Spalding County – Health Care Assistant
The Trevor Alexander Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition and fees scholarship to a student who is eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship but is not eligible for The PELL Grant. Established in memory of Trevor Alexander, an Assessment Specialist at the College, who died of cancer in August 2013. The Foundation awarded five $250 scholarships for a total of $1,250. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • Joi Gray – Clayton County – Cosmetology
  • Marlo Johnson – Spalding County – Health Care Management
  • Gloria Love – Henry County – Early Childhood Care/Education, Business Management
  • Abigail Noulis – Spalding County – Cosmetology
  • Brittnie Samuel – Henry County – Health Care Management
The High School-to-College Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $300 scholarship awarded to a recent high school graduate (graduated within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. The scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. The Foundation awarded two $300 scholarships for a total of $600. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • Khaliya Deyounks – Henry County – Health Care Management
  • Teranikia Usher – Henry County – Accounting

The Georgia Power Company Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship funded by the Georgia Power Company for the purchase of program-required tools, uniforms and/or equipment. The Foundation awarded eleven $250 scholarships for a total of $2,750. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • April Brown – Respiratory Care – Bibb County
  • Joi Gray – Cosmetology – Clayton County
  • Melani Kendrew – Radiologic Technology – Henry County
  • Abigail Lee – Health Care Management – Pike County
  • Gloria Love – Early Childhood Care/Education, Business Management – Henry County
  • Tuesday Manion – Forensic Science Technology – Henry County
  • Abigail Noulis – Cosmetology – Spalding County
  • Gotfried Pierre-Louis – Henry County – Early Childhood Care/Education

The Lespedeza Fund Scholarship, honoring the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, is a $1,000 tuition, textbook and toolbox need-based scholarship awarded to a first-generation student (defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a degree or any education beyond high school/first in your family to attend college to attain a certificate, diploma or degree) enrolled in one of the following programs: Allied Health, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Industrial Systems Technology, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The Foundation awarded four $1,000 scholarships for a total of $4,000. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • Krysta Franzen – Phlebotomy Technician – Butts County
  • Lisa Jordan – Radiologic Technology – Upson County
  • Ally Payne – Radiologic Technology – Pike County
  • Vasty Vidza – Health Care Management – Henry County
The A.J. Thomas Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $200 tuition scholarship for any student, established in memory of A.J. Thomas who passed away in 2020 and was the husband of Dr. Alvetta P. Thomas, President of Southern Crescent Technical College. A.J. was a lifelong proponent of education who believed that education improved the quality of life for individuals and communities. The Foundation awarded two $200 scholarships for a total of $400. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • Rhonni Chandler – Nursing – Spalding County
  • Marie Therese Mbock – Health Care Management – Clayton County
The Walker Cook Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship established in memory of Walker Cook who passed away in 2017, former Griffin resident and husband of Barbara Jo Cook, V.P. for Advancement at SCTC. Walker was a life-long educator who believed education improved the quality of life for individuals and communities. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester to:

  • Adrienne Pino – Early Childhood Care/Education – Coweta County
The Schyla Avery Memorial Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded for students pursuing a degree in Respiratory Care. Established in memory of Schyla Nicole Avery, who received an AAS degree in Respiratory Care from the College, and died in a tragic house fire in 2011. The Foundation awarded two $250 scholarships for a total of $500. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • April Brown – Respiratory Care – Bibb County
  • Hali Sullivan – Respiratory Care – Fulton County
The Shop with a Sheriff Tuition, Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 tuition, textbook, and toolbox scholarship for an SCTC student who is a Fayette County, Georgia resident. Half of the funds, $250, will be applied to tuition and $250 will be applied to the bookstore for course-required textbooks and/or tools. The Foundation awarded one $500 scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester to:

  • Usman Habib – Cybersecurity – Fayette County
The Upson EMC Foundation Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship. Student must be a Georgia resident and must live in one of the five counties Upson EMC serves: Crawford, Pike, Meriwether, Talbot, and Upson. The Foundation awarded five $250 scholarships for a total of $1,250. Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester are:

  • Lisa Jordan – Radiologic Technology – Upson County
  • Abigail Lee– Phlebotomy Technician – Pike County
  • Ally Payne – Radiologic Technology – Pike County
  • Dallin Reeve – Electrical Systems Tech Diploma, Air Conditioning Tech Diploma – Meriwether County
  • Amber Robinson – Business Management Degree, Business Technology – Pike County
The Gene Haas Foundation Machine Tool Tuition, Technology Textbook & Toolbox is a $500 scholarship awarded with $250 in tuition and $250 for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies for a student in Machine Tool Technology program. The Foundation awarded one $500 scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester to:

  • William Stansell – CNC Technology – Spalding County
The MAACA / Tim Derrick Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded to a student in an Air-Conditioning Technology program. Established in memory of Tim Derrick, Chief HVAC inspector for the City of Atlanta, HVAC contractor, and HVAC instructor, who died of brain cancer in 2005, and was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Atlanta Air-Conditioning Contractors Association (MAACA). The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester to:

  • Dallin Reeve – Electrical Systems Tech Diploma, Air Conditioning Tech Diploma – Meriwether County
The Southern Contractors Association Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. This scholarship is for students in a Technical & Industrial program directly related to the building industry. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester to:

  • Dallin Reeve – Electrical Systems Tech Diploma, Air Conditioning Tech Diploma – Meriwether County
The Spalding County Pickleball Association Practical Nursing Tuition Scholarship is a $500 tuition scholarship awarded to a student in the Practical Nursing program. The Spalding County Pickleball Association is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization promoting and growing pickleball for the betterment of our community through active lifestyle, health & well-being, exercise and fitness, sports tourism, and economic impact. The Foundation awarded one $500 scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester to:

  • Bethany Marbut – Practical Nursing – Spalding County
The Susan Elizabeth Pruett Memorial Accounting Textbook & Toolbox is a $250 scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. This scholarship is for students in the Accounting program. It was established in memory of Susan Elizabeth Pruett by Reshann Pruett Adams, SCTC Foundation Trustee. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for Fall 2021 Semester to:

  • Teranikia Usher – Accounting – Henry County
