Atlanta Academy issued the following announcement on March 7.
Over the past month, 5th grade students have been reading “Hidden Figures”, a non-fiction text about Black female mathematicians who worked for NASA during the Space Race. As a culminating activity, they watched the film version and will compare and contrast the two formats after Spring Break. In Social Studies, they learned more about the Space Race and how astronauts live on the ISS. They also debated the existence of aliens using research and created their own alien selfies. In Writing, students tasted freeze dried space food and wrote a narrative based on space-themed prompts. During Science and Math, they learned about phases of the moon via Oreos and built constellations out of marshmallows. In April, we will be speaking with Mr. Darrell Eldridge of NASA to discuss the upcoming Artemis launch!
Our 5th grade is out of this world!
