The 2025 NFL Draft is just around the corner, but instead of speculating on the upcoming decisions, the focus shifts to recollections of past Atlanta Falcons draft picks that left a significant impact. Three Falcons staff members reflect on their favorite draft memories, emphasizing the legacy of key players in the franchise’s history.

Tori McElhaney highlights Matt Ryan, selected third overall in the 2008 NFL Draft, as a transformative pick for the team. "The drafting of Matt Ryan... ushered in one of the most prosperous eras of the franchise's history to date," McElhaney states. Ryan led the Falcons through numerous playoff runs, a Super Bowl appearance, and a period of stability following the tumultuous 2007 season. His contributions earned him a place in the Falcons' Ring of Honor, marking him as an example for drafting a franchise quarterback.

Will McFadden reflects on the sentimental value of the Falcons selecting Roddy White in 2005. McFadden recalls a personal memory of the draft day, spent on a camping trip with his father. Despite initial disappointment among fans, White's career ultimately proved successful and memorable, cementing his place in the Falcons' Ring of Honor.

Terrin Waack remembers the 1991 selection of Brett Favre as the 33rd overall pick. Although Favre's tenure with the Falcons was brief and uneventful, his trade to the Green Bay Packers marked the beginning of a legendary career elsewhere. The Falcons used the trade to acquire running back Tony Smith in 1992, though his impact was minimal in comparison to Favre's subsequent Hall of Fame career.

These reflections offer insight into both the franchise's history and the personal connections fans and writers have with the game.
